XL Group to Use SAS Visual Analytics

To quickly visualize business data from internal and external sources to explore new ways of analyzing risk, XL Group will use SAS Visual Analytics. With data visualizations tailored specifically for a business team, XL Group XL expects to enhance decision-making and profitable growth and broaden adoption of advanced analytical modeling within the company.

“Data visualization will enable us to clearly communicate complex statistical insights to our colleagues and encourage more widespread use of analytics in business planning and decision making across XL,” said Kimberly Holmes, head of strategic analytics for XL Group.

Initially, XL Group will use SAS Visual Analytics to support its underwriters’ risk selection and strategic decision-making. Holmes sees future opportunities to better understand the key factors influencing mission-critical decisions in all areas of the organization. XL Group’s goal is to embed analytic decision management process and application systems across the organization. Holmes believes “the potential is vast.”

“By inspiring more analytical questions, we expect to uncover more insights,” she said. “Our ability to analyze more data—quickly and in unique ways—with SAS Visual Analytics will lead to more informed decisions.”

SAS says it offers the only in-memory engine designed specifically for business visualization of big data on general-purpose, nonproprietary hardware. SAS Visual Analytics combines analytics with in-memory architecture, data exploration and information-delivery options.
