ACORD Honors Outstanding Achievements

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Recognizing outstanding accomplishments and achievements as well as leadership in the implementation of standards, The Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development (ACORD), Pearl River, N.Y., held its 14th Annual ACORD Awards ceremony at the ACORD LOMA Insurance Systems Forum in Las Vegas this week.

For the first time, ACORD presented Distinguished Service Awards to three member volunteers, one from each of its standards domains.  The winners were:

* Mele Fuller, Safeco, Seattle, Property & Casualty/Surety Domain

* Clark Vavrinec, New York Life, New York, N.Y., Life and Annuity Domain

* Maggy Leon, Guy Carpenter, New York, N.Y., Reinsurance & Large Commercial Domain

Barbara Koster, Sr. vice president and CIO, Newark, N.J.-based Prudential Financial and ACORD Board chair, emphasized the importance of member involvement. "As an industry organization, we rely on hundreds of people, like you, to serve on various committees and working groups and to put standards into action," she said. "I know that I can speak for Prudential and my associates on the ACORD Board when I say that we are all proud to be part of this world class industry standards organization."

The awards were presented by Denise Garth, vice president, Membership and Standards. "As ACORD standards continue to grow and spread around the globe, it is through the efforts of members who have exhibited the vision and dedication to develop and implement ACORD standards and led the industry by their example," said Garth.

Four of this year's biggest winners were Sheboygan, Wis.-based ACUITY with six awards, Richmond, Va.-based Genworth and The Hartford, Hartford, Conn., tied at eight awards each, and Applied Systems, University Park, Ill., with a total of nine.
