AmEx Vet Joins Marsh & McLennan

Dina Shapiro has been appointed VP, head of tax by professional services firm Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. Shapiro will report to Mike Bischoff, CFO, effective March 30, 2015. Shapiro will be based in corporate headquarters in New York City.

Shapiro will be responsible for financial reporting, project planning and development, global tax compliance, tax treatment of continuing operations, tax examinations, budgeting and business planning, Marsh & McLennan said, and will advise the executive, audit and finance committees and the board of directors on tax-related issues.

“I am delighted to welcome Dina to Marsh & McLennan,” Bischoff said. “With her deep and wide-ranging tax experience, she will be an excellent addition to our leadership team.”

Previously, Shapiro was SVP, tax for American Express, where she was responsible for tax planning, exposure management, tax compliance and accounting since 2012. In addition, she offered guidance on tax legislative and regulatory matters and business support. She joined American Express in 2010 as head of international tax.

Prior to American Express, Shapiro was chief tax officer for GMAC from 2006 to 2010, where she oversaw the tax department team, which comprised more than 60 professionals in six locations covering all GMAC businesses globally, including auto finance, mortgage operations and structured finance, Marsh & McLennan said. Before GMAC, Shapiro spent 11 years at Citigroup, where she held numerous senior roles in the tax department.
