Nationwide Mutual Implements BYOD Software

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. is implementing a solution from Cass Information Systems Inc. that will enable associates to use their personal smartphones to connect to the Nationwide corporate network.

In mid-2011, more than 6,000 Nationwide associates were participating in the Corporate Owned BlackBerry program. To date, more than 2,500 of those associates have converted to the Employee Owned Smartphone program, supporting Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). Cass says BYOD programs are becoming commonplace in enterprises as employees seek more freedom of choice in device and service provider options.

The process Cass is instituting will allow Nationwide to reimburse its associates. With Nationwide's Employee Owned Smartphone program, Cass manages and submits pre-approved, monthly electronic payments for a portion of an employee's personal account directly to the service providers. This electronic payment process was deployed to supplement the associate's voice and data service when using those services for corporate use. This process allows associates to freely choose the smartphone with the most appeal as well as their service provider of choice.

Cass also adds that Nationwide recently was awarded Mobility Management Project of the Year by AOTMP for achieving exceptional results with its Employee Owned Smartphone project.
