In his new role, DeGrote will oversee the design of IT controls, risk and Allainz Life’s overall security management strategy. He will also be responsible for information security across Allianz Life and its partners, according to the insurer, and will report to CIO Jeff Palm.

“Douglas brings more than 25 years of experience in risk and security management to Allianz Life and is a great asset to our team,” Palm said, in a statement. “He will help us continue to successfully manage IT risk and protect information, creating a more secure future for our business and our customers.”

Before coming on board at Allianz Life, DeGrote was CISO of Xcel Energy where he oversaw both the strategy and operations of Xcel’s cyber security and disaster recovery programs. He also has worked at MoneyGram International and Trissential.
