Julie Stephenson has been appointed senior vice president and chief underwriting officer for CNA Commercial, effectiveSept. 1, 2015. Stephenson will be responsible for underwriting oversight and governance for all commercial products and lines of business written; she will report toKevin Leidwinger, president and chief operating officer, CNA Commercial, and will be based inChicago, CNA said.
"Julie's 18 years of proven leadership and insurance expertise make her well suited to further strengthen CNA's Commercial lines operations," Leidwinger said.
Stephenson most recently was senior vice president and global liability manager for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, where she was responsible for the strategic direction of a$1.3 billionglobal portfolio of general liability, errors & omissions and environmental business, CNA said. Previously she served in several management positions at Chubb, including vice president and global liability manager.
Stephenson succeedsJohn Beckman, who has accepted the role of SVP and chief transformation officer for CNA Commercial. Beckman will lead large scale transformative projects and thought leadership in support of Commercial’s long-term goals, CNA said. He will continue reporting toKevin Leidwinger.
"John and Julie will work closely together to assess major risk exposures in Commercial, identify new growth opportunities and products, and recommend risk management and remediation strategies. Both John and Julie will play key roles in our goals to grow profitably by providing a superior experience to the customers we serve," Leidwinger added.
