Liberty Mutual adds 4 C-level execs to tech organization

LIberty Mutual has appointed four executives to its technology leadership team. Reporting to corporate CIO James McGlennon, the goal of the additions is to create a faster, more agile tech organization that quickly ideate and deploy new digital capabilities.

"We need to disrupt ourselves and change how we operate, placing the customer at the center of our thinking and looking for new ways to provide value and enhanced service," McGlennon says. "By doing this we will redefine how customers shop for and learn about insurance by creating innovative ways to help them navigate the roads with more confidence and less worry.”

The four appointees are:

  • Monica Caldas, SVP and CIO for Liberty’s Global Retail Markets, who will focus on transforming the unit digitally and increasing the use of data and analytics.
  • John Heveran, SVP and CIO for global risk solutions, which includes Liberty International Underwriters, Liberty Specialty Markets, Liberty Mutual Surety, Ironshore and National Insurance.
  • Katie Jenkins, SVP and CISO, leading enterprise cybersecurity policy, strategy and programs including cyber risk management, security-enabled cloud technology and employee awareness initiatives.
  • Michael Willock, SVP and CTO for Liberty Mutual Investments, who like Caldas is tasked with developing a strategic roadmap for his division, enhancing its data and analytics capabilities.

The appointments come a few months after Mojgan Lefebvre, who had been CIO of Liberty Mutual's Global Specialty unit, moved on to Travelers, where she leads corporate IT as CIO. Liberty Mutual hired Shelia Anderson from USAA to serve in the newly created role of CIO of corporate functions in March.
