Symantec Completes BindView Deal

Cupertino, Calif. - Software security provider Symantec announced today that it completed its acquisition of Houston-based BindView Development Corp., a provider of agent-less IT security compliance software.

Symantec's goal with the acquisition is to offer a choice of either agent-based or agent-less solutions that will enable users to define, control, and sustain their IT compliance requirements. Agent-based and agent-less policy compliance solutions are complementary capabilities in the IT environment, and they address different customer needs. Symantec's agent-based technology architecture offers compliance and vulnerability management and is designed for enterprises that have complex and heterogeneous IT environments. BindView's agent-less architecture, which is less IT staff-intensive, is suitable for organizations faced with managing a large number of systems that are not centrally located, such as Windows desktop machines deployed throughout the enterprise.

The acquisition completion was effective at the end of the day on Jan. 6, 2006, reports Cupertino, Calif.-based Symantic.
