The Hartford Names Chief Underwriting Officer

Morris “Mo” Tooker was named EVP and chief underwriting officer for The Hartford’s P&C businesses. He will report to Doug Elliot, the insurer’s president.

Tooker will oversee underwriting across small commercial, middle market, large commercial and personal lines segments and will lead the development of the company’s underwriting approach for new markets and growth areas, The Hartford said.

Most recently, Tooker was president of General Reinsurance Corp., a global P&C, life and health reinsurance company and subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, The Hartford said. There, he was responsible for the insurer’s global P&C reinsurance business and oversaw the company’s global treaty reinsurance and property, engineering and marine facultative businesses.

“Mo is a recognized and admired leader in the global insurance industry,” said Elliot. “His deep knowledge of the international, property and specialty insurance markets will be instrumental in driving our expanded risk appetite as we pursue growth opportunities in new and evolving markets.”

Tooker holds a bachelor's degree in economics and environmental studies from Middlebury College, The Hartford said.
