Guardian Life Insurance Company has appointed Andrew McMahon as executive vice president of strategy and customer development, a newly created role.

McMahon, who last was with Phoenix Life Insurance Companies, is tasked with developing enterprise strategy and bolstering the life insurer’s digital customer experience. He will also take part in Guardian Life’s executive leadership team, reporting to company CEO and President Deanna Mulligan.

"Our customers expect and deserve an outstanding experience as we deliver on our commitment to serve their financial needs," said Mulligan, in a statement. "I am confident Andrew will create new opportunities that benefit all of our customers."

He was later appointed EVP & head of strategic initiatives at AXA U.S before ascending to president and member of board of directors in January 2011.

"Guardian is a company I have admired for years,” McMahon says. "Currently, there are incredible opportunities for innovation in the industry. I'm excited about working with Deanna and the leadership team to set the course and lead transformative initiatives for the company."
